Choosing a location for Brand Photos

Before you start considering locations for your session, take the time to think about what your average day looks like. Remember that you want to give potential clients and audience a look at a day in your life so your photos need to tell that story. You may even find that you don’t need to look very hard or far for the perfect location either as your office or backyard might be all you need.

Consider some of the coffee shops, hotels, studios or co-working spaces in your area for ideas. Always opt for a location with as much natural light as possible as this makes for the best shots.

What if you choose your home or office:

Awesome… now lets declutter. Our real life space is often times an organized mess. Think of it like having a real estate photographer coming over to take photos to sell your house. You have to clear away the clutter. Clean you desk and hide anything that may look distracting in the photo. We will use some of your everyday items, but less is more.

What if I choose a public space like the coffee shop or hotel lobby

These are really cool places to shoot! The images turn out great and you can sit next to large windows and get so much yummy light. I love going on location. Remember these things when planning to shot at some else storefront. You should ask permission. 99% of the time they do not mind, especially if your images show their space in good likeness. But there is nothing worst than planning an epic session and being asked to leave before we are finished. Get permission. And if you want them to really love you offer to tag or write about their space when you post the images.

What about the studio

My favorite place to create brand photo images is Studio Always Fancy. It is a blank canvas that can be customized to fit your needs, and you don’t have to worry about cleaning up and hiding your junk. if you decided to shoot at the studio using props to bring your workspace to life is a simple way to create a great setting for your shoot.
